My 1958 Evinrude runs good when it starts but won't stay running for more the a minute at most. I rebuild the electrical system twice replacing the coils using known working ones, carb. was rebuilt and fuel pump replaced with a used one ( I converted the engine). Engine will start cold but after it stalls it won't restart about 95% of the time & then only run a few seconds to about 30 seconds. Then nothing. I pretty sure its in the fuel department?
One other thing is my fuel tank has been sitting about 4 years with about a quart or so old gas, I did dump out as much as I could. Could it have picked up dirt out of the tank or rust that lodged in the carb.? Thank for any help.

One issue may be the used coils, but..

Does the bulb stay hard or firm when it's running. Are you venting the tank? Is the used pump actually good? Pump the bulb and see if it stays running. If yes, replace or rebuild fuel pump. Then it's on to the carb.

Yes, you may have picked up some junk. Do you still have the glass and filter in use? If not put a filter on it if your going to use that tank. Clean carb and you may want to replace all the fuel lines if you didn't already.
