HELP! I have checked all over this site and google and nobody seems to know the answer. The boat had its carbs rebuilt by a reputable shop. The NGK plugs were replaced by champions by the shop. Broght the boat home and it ran great for one time out on the lake. We took it out today and it doesn't have enough power to plane the boat out. It doesn't start the best but it never really has. Idle is SLIGHTLY rougher than usuall. The ball pump stoped pumping awhile back so I replaced it with an automotive pump which I rhinolined. I however I DID prezerve the oneway bypass valve of the old pump.

In testing, the fuel system would shoot a forcefull 1/2 stream of good preasure clean new fuel out the fueline to the carbs when it was disconnected. I pumped 2 gallons out just to make sure it was fine. It would also siphon with the priming pump off. When the motor is given WOT (verifed that the butterflys are opening all the way by use of the throttle pedal), the motor sounds like it runs ok but it doesn't have the power to get on up on plane, and it used to have enough to shoot the boat into the sky. There are no beep codes but the beeper does work.

Heres the kicker, when I kick on the primer pump at wot, it slows the motor down. In other words, its not a fuel delivery problem.

I pulled the plugs and they are all consistant. They have black arms but the insulator and the inside of the metal looks brand new, slightly tan.

Could the problem be ignition? I wondered about it being a carb problem but since all 4 were just rebuilt, and since the plugs are consistant the chance of the problem being and individual carb seem slim to me.

The VRO works and I am using amsoil sythetic oil, have for years and the oil level drops consistantly.

I was hoping typeing all this out would give me a suggestion for trouble shooteing but it looks like I will need someone elses help. so HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for any help.

Would seen you are dropping spark to a cylinder or two larboc. Get a timing light and see if you spark to all cylinders. Or, do a spark test on each cylinder. Each spark should jump at least a 1/2" gap with a strong thick hot spark.

Spark OK, start looking for fuel lines that lose or may have lost grip on connection points.

With the engine off, go to wide open throttle and check that all throttle plates are at wide open position and are in sync when moving.

And it's not out of the realm of possible that a carb may have a piece of crud in it blocking things up, even though it was just rebuilt. May want to think about taking it back to the dealer who serviced the carbs if you can't find the problem and tell him what the problem is.

ill double the weak or no spark as obj said. i just had the same symptom on my v4. and 3 of my cylinders had weak spark.

i disconected and cleaned all the connectors with that CRC electrical contact cleaner from the parts store, and then relubed the connectors with dielectric grease. i also loosened all my ground wires and wires that went to the terminal block and did the same. that ended up fixing my problem.

Forgot to follow up. For anyone with similar problem, it ended up being some rtv that the carb "rebuilder" let get away and it clogged a main in a carb which leaned out 2 cylinders. I cleaned all 8 carbs and she runs great now, espeacially after all new stator, PP's, voltage reg, and crank trigger from cdi after an electrical fire consumed everything expensive.

Suggestion, put a fuse between the voltage regulator and the +12v post. Not having one stock is what caused the fire and $1000+ for new electrical parts.

Sloppy workmanship, for the prices they charge we do our own.
