My first boat and motor! I have been told this is a good motor, anyone got stories? Also how does one remove the auto-mix? It is packaged on a 1990 16' Lowe 1600V bass fishing boat with trailer, overall very clean and well kept. What should the compression be, +/- 10% ? Thanks for the help I am very excited, I like to work on my car, cant wait to tinker with this!!!

God bless, Mike.

First cut and plug the oil line at the engine. Then disconnect the electrical plug from the back of the VRO.

Then trace the two wires from the oil tank to the engine, disconnect those two wires as well, removing them as well as the oil tank.

Mix the 50 to 1 oil with 87 octane fuel. Disconnect the fuel line at the engine. Pump the fuel primer bulb until fuel exits that hose with the tint of oil. Reconnect the fuel hose.

Grounding out the tan heat sensor wire should still sound the alarm horn!

You should be shooting for about 100 psi + or - 10 psi between cylinders. What maintainence has been done to the motor, it is always recommended to do the impeller and look into the water pump on any new motor to you. Would also highly reccomend getting yourself an OEM manual, it will pay for itself a million times over. Good luck.

Thanks Chris,
will get manual when I pick up boat at the end of February. I have one for the van as well, can't own a motor w/out one, as I can't afford to pay a mechanic being less than a wealthy man. I invest in tools for my box rather than someone else's!
To check pump and impeller, use the hose hookup and check for flow, and pressure?

Well you are definately in the right place then. The impeller should be changed about every 3 years, it is a cheap part, but its failure is catastrophic. Ask the prevoius owner when it was last done, although, I always do it myself for peace of mind. Take a look at this video, copy and paste it without the " ". When you get it, the guys along with a manual will get you through it with ease.

Awesome!!! My fishing partner is an auto mech and electrician, and I took 4 years of machine tool and die and drafting so this should be a blast. very helpful!
P.S. is the lower unit removed from the powerhead in this video?

That model number is a 1989 engine, Fisher. Not a 1990. Might make a difference in part numbers.

Yes it is already removed. Unfortunately, getting it off is the hard part. Still not a bid deal though.

Thanks JB,
I was told that, but other than cosmetics the motors are the same. I will check when buying parts though. Measure twice, cut once!!!
