Evinrude 1998 90hp

Evinrude 90 hp, 1998. I am looking at buying a boat with this motor on it. Is this one of the motors that had all the trouble with power heads or something? It supposedly has low hours on it, but I dont want to buy a lemon if I can avoid it. Thanks for any replies.

Hey there JJA,<br /><br />I own a '98 90hp Evinrude and it has been great thus far. It runs smooth and quiet on the back of a 17ft Nitro. At wide open throttle it runs at 5500 rpms and will push me just under 45 mph...plenty fast for me. Most of the time I cruise at around 4500 rpms. It came with the oil injection but I had it disconnected just to be safe and now premix my oil. As for other opinions, they may be different, but my engine has performed well. Most engines will last a long time if you take care of them and do the proper maintenance.

JJA,<br /><br />That's a good engine. I do not agreee with disabling the oil injection however. <br /><br />The oil injection works great if one maintains it.
