New here so hello to everyone. I have read and learned a lot from here in the past but can't find the answer I need now anywhere. My evinrude 25 (25702H) comes up as a 1977 model. I need a water pump impeller but the shaft and the impeller does not match what is supposed to be in that model. I'm thinking someone replaced the lower unit with one of a different HP because the shaft looks like none I have ever seen. I have also talked to several mechanics who have never heard of one like it. The shaft is round like any other except where the impeller rides. There is no keyway or pin of any sort. Instead there is a hex pattern in the shaft that the impeller slides over to lock it to the shaft. The impeller has no metal insert, it is just rubber. Same size as shaft and it's kinda of an interference fit over the hex pattern on the shaft. Sounds crazy but it works. It doesn't move as much water as it used to so I wanna replace it but don't even know where to look for the part. Can anyone tell me what this is or have any ideas where I might find any answers?

Never heard of this Ron. Could you send a picture? Does the impeller have a number on it?

My bet - your impeller's hub has come undone from the rubber and has stuck/corroded to the shaft.

Sounds feasible to me. Get out the torch, PB blaster, hammer and flathead screwdriver.

Chinewalker is right on. But no need to " heat and beat" it off. A few minutes with a dremmel tool will have the old impeller hub off the shaft!

Chinewalker... I feel like an idiot. That never even occurred to me because it looks machined that way. I kinda thought I was a decent mechanic but there is ALWAYS more to learn about outboards. I bet you are right and I will tear it apart in the next few days to see. Thank you very much
