DSC01075.jpgDSC01074.jpgHi guys,
I have recently bough a 1998 Evinrude 25hp and the owner said he ran aground and it has been stuck in gear since. I have removed the unit and got some picures. The shifter is working fine from the powerhead linkage downwards but the linkage in the gearcase seems to be stuck.

Slowly turn the prop and push down on the shift rod. If that don't work and if you can't get any better suggestions then tear into it. It's not that difficult to open up and get back together.

If your going to take it apart you need to remove the lower unit from the motor and set it on a bench to work on it. Sounds like your going to need to buy a manual before you get started. If your not somewhat handy with taking things apart then you might want to take it to a shop but they will probably charge you $200-$400 depending on the problem.

Heres a schematic/parts list. Its not too complicated #46 is the usual stumper its a snap ring.If you are going to do your own work a manual is best. However if you ask here everyone is very helpful and knowlegable.
