Hi guys i recently rebuilt a 1998 Evinrude 25hp (be25elece) as it had been submerged and sat in my friends garden for years. I have got it to turn over beautifuly but there is no spark. The coils have a bit of rust on them, would the salt have killed them?

Hi there,
I sprayed the cylinder head whilst rebuilding it, could the paint be stopping it?
Also could the powepack be faulty?

Re: Evinrude 25..

The mounting pad that the ground wire from the coil goes to should be free of any paint and corrosion to make a proper ground for the coil.

I'll go along with checking ALL the ground wire connections for being good, clean and tight.

Re: Evinrude 25..

Just to add the powerpack is not the coil but the pack on the side of the engine held in by two bolts.
