OK, my ongoing saga with my 1985 Evinrude 25hp continues...

This morning I stripped down the carb and replaced the float, gaskets, etc. hoping this would improve the running/idling.

It hasnt.

Still the same problem as before.

The engine will run if I take the lid off and manually hold the throttle at faster than normal but when the throttle is released, the engine splutters and stops.

My needle valve was originally set at 12 turns out, which is why I repaired the carb.

Now the needle valve is 1 and a half turns out.

2 new sparks, new impeller, etc.

The only thing I havent looked at is the pivot pin on the side of the engine. Its attached to the throttle control rod. When I adjust this slightly, it enables the engine to idle smoothly. Should I be tinkering with that?

First off you should probably take the carb apart and double triple make sure youve got it all clean. I like to take a syringe and chase all the ports and passages with alcohol. The passages are very tiny in these carbs.
Then get your self a manual for your motor and find out how to do a sync and lync it will get you in the right direction.
Hope this helps.

I checked all the ports were clear by blowing through with a pipe, I was also able to see sunglight through some of them. This was after it was cleaned in an ultra sound cleaner.

Sync and link? Would that be covered in a service or owners manual?

Thanks for the reply.

Service manual.

Johnson/Evinrude if you can get one, but a Selock is better than none at all.
