Attention Paul Moir,
Your suggestion of the impact screw driver was right on and I managed to remove the lower unit screwws and found lower unit oil rather clear.
Howevere when I removed the prop. I found that it had a very large rubber gasket that ran thru it. Any ideas where I can get parts?????

Thanks for all your help Skinny

Re: Evinrude 3 hp. lower unit

I'm glad to hear you managed to get the l/u lube plugs out. There's good reasons why that's one of my favorite tools.

If I'm not mistaken, their ought to be a large wavey rubber gasket between the prop and it's hub that you can remove yourself. If that's what you're looking at, just reassemble it when you re-install the prop. It's ment to absorb the shock of a propeller strike.

If the rubber gasket is destroyed (OMC calls it a "clutch"), then you'll need a new one. If so, you can get a new one from your local johnny/rude dealer. I'm pretty sure those are all still available, for not much money.
