Evinrude 3 hp model model 3706 leaking black oil

My little lightwin runs wonderfully but I notice black oil coming from the powerhead and falling on the lower cowling being 2 cycle it's not as serious as if it was a 4 cycle, I cleaned it and ran it in a barrel and didn't notice any leaking it does it when I take it out on the water I don't think it is the head gasket I think it might be the exhaust cover gasket, they don't cost much to replace it do I put gasket sealer on the gasket? Thank you... bc

Got the new gasket was only a little over $2, took awhile to put it on the motor, just getting the old gasket off was time consuming, the plate was caked up with old oil and carbon, getting that off took a bit, probably the first time it was ever off, two days ago I put in on the boat and it started right up, is about the smoothest running motor I ever saw, runs smooth at all speeds, not very fast but dependable, there was no more black oil running down the driveshaft housing, I'm sure the new gasket improved the performance even more, thank you bc

What year model is your little motor?

It is a 1967, came from N Wisconsin where they take good care of them up there so it still runs good, runs smooth in all speeds
