evinrude 30hp power head to a 77 johnson 35hp mid section

i need to know if i can do this. I have a short shaft 77 johnson 35hp with a bad porwer head. I also have a 1988 evinrude 30hp with a good power head but its a long shaft. I would like to put the 88 on the 77 to make a short shaft motor. but when i look at the part numbers for the base gasket they are different.
Can i do this7 or am i spinning my wheels? Looking at the power heads from both motors they are pretty much the same except the choke system. any help would be appreciated!

I can't answer your question about the power head, but if the '88 30hp is a fully functional motor, then you can just get a jack plate for your boat.
