Evinrude 33hp 1966 cooling problems

i have an old evinrude. i started it today and it does not cool. i pretty sure its not the water pump. i have taken of the top on the cylinder head so i can see the cooling channels. i took my water tube and puted it in the waterintake hole on the gearhouse an tried to flush the system. but the water does not come up to the cylinder head. is there a thermostat somewere?? it worked properly for just some weeks ago..<br />im from sweden so my english is not 100 %, <br /><br />/KIM

Evinrude - Yes your engine does have a thermostat. It ought to be in the cylinder head, underneath the thermostat cover. The thermostat cover is at the top of the cylinder head, and is held on by three screws (I think).<br />Was this the part you removed to look at the water passages? Or did you remove the whole cylinder head?<br /><br />When you say you put a water tube into the water intanke hole, how did you do this exactly? The correct hose attachment connects to the water inlet, which is the directly behind the propeller, and covered by a wire screen. <br />The four holes in the panel on the side of the gearcase are not sufficient for supplying water.<br /><br />Was the engine running while you were flushing?

You also should replace the water pump.
