Dont really ever see this topic much at all in this section. I'm guess they are pretty rare. My question is...what years did they make Evinrude 4 Strokes and how good are they? I found a boat that is a 2000 year model, and has a 4 stroke Evinrude 70HP on it. Not certain that the motor is the same year as the boat...but it could be. Anyone here know anything about Evinrude 4 strokes.

Re: Evinrude 4 Strokes

In approx 2004, Bombardier decided that the Evinrude line would be the direct inject 2 stroke engine, and that Johnson would be the 4 stroke engine line. Johnson had no 4 stroke engines, so they imported Suzuki engines and painted them white. This was in a short span, from around 2004 through 2006. They quit importing them after the 2006 year due to high import taxes. Durng the years that Johnson marketed them, these 4 strokes were extremely popular. They are extremely reliable and have nearly zero warranties on any year or hp.

From about 1997 to 2001 OMC bought DF70 Suzuki engines and painted them in Evinrude colors. Later they painted them white and called them Johnsons. As Johnsons they also sold the Suzi DF50, DF115 and DF140.

Very good engines. I had a Suzi version and loved it

Find the model number. I believe it is illegal in FL to possess/sell an outboard without the number plate.

Re: Evinrude 4 Strokes

Okay, I will try to get a model number. But overall, I am led to believe that these 4 stroke motors for Evinrude that were actually made by Suzuki were quality motors? Worth while atleast? Efficient and economical?
Thanks guys

Yes. Very good engines. Extremely quiet at idle and low speed, smooth and economical.
