I have an older Evinrude Lark 40 horse power. It has selectric controls and a charging system. The plate that says the model and serial# is belt off and the letter are illegible. Can any body tell me the year with out the model#? Please help i NEED TO know.

You may still have a model number. Look for a silver disk the size of a quarter on the block behind the flywheel, ie on top of the top cylinder. It may have your model number stamped into it along with the serial number.
Failing that, you might be able to zero in on it by it's styling. Look through the catalogs at the Old OMC Site.

Good Luck!
