Evinrude 40 hp. What year is it?

I have a Evinrude 40 HP outboard on my pontoon I just got and I can not find out what year it is. Can anyone help?

Model # E40ELGR
Serial# 1002193

Take another look. That's probably is CR, not GR. CR translates to a 1984. No such thing as a GR.

You are correct. I guess the eyes are not as good as they use to be. 1984 would make since. This might be a dumb question but a 2 stroke or 4 stroke? This is my 1st outboard. All others have been I/O so I am learning as I go.

Thanks JB. A service Manual is on the list. I appreciate the answers. I went from a ski boat to a pontoon boat. Funny how things change when you start to get older.

No, but the mechanic will charge you more than that for 2 hours, whether (s)he fixes it or not. The manual keeps coming back and saving you big bux every time.
