Evinrude 40hp 1961

Hi,

I just bought an Evinrude 40hp model 35022 for 190$. My questions are: The seller told me that a sparkplug does not fire the other is ok, what can be the problem? Where i can find the wiring diagram for this motor?

Pull the flywheel and look at the coils, check for cracks. Clean and adjust the points to .020 and then try it.

Wiring info, your motor may also have a bad cutout switch, disconnect the black wire going to the switch and crank it to test.

Thanks for all these informations. I will check all of these. If the motor run good, what is the worth of this old motor? By the way, the manual starter don't work, the rope and the spring are ok, so it dont grip to the flywheel.

Hard to say, i bought a 64 last year for $200 with the same issue and its mint.

The flywheel must absolutely be torqued to 105 foot pounds, otherwise the flywheel key will shear which will damage the flywheel and crankshaft tapers.
