I have a 96 Gruman with a 48 special moter. It looks as it is already wired for a auto tilt and trim. What is the best part for the price if I want try to install an automatic tilt and trim and how much am I getting into. Do I need to let a mechanic do it?

You may have the trim switch on your remote control, but nothing on that engine is prewired for power trim.Kits are available but not cheap.Installation is not bad if the current gas unit decides it wants to come out .Often the pins that hold these units in have to be cut in order remove the assist cylinder. You can get a good idea what you are in for by trying to remove the top pin nearest the engine and easiest to get too.Remove the retaining pin and with a brass drift so as you don't mushroom out that pin ,hammer away.Pin comes out nice and easy, awesome, beat and beat and get nowhere, sad.
