OK, here goes. This is my first time posting on the forum. I've been reading posts for about a week now and I must admit, what a great forum!

I've owned a "Rude 15hp since 1979 (15904-C 56008) and last year I changed the impeller, thermostat. The pump was working fine but I figured after 23 years, a little preventative maintenance couldn't hurt. I replaced the fuel pump about 4 years ago, that did go bad! Other than replacing the starter lockout pawl and the above parts, this motor runs like a charm. I run the fuel out of the carb after every use and change the lower unit fluid every fall. I de-carbed it last summer and made a nice running motor even better. Prior to the fuel pump going South, I hadn't run the motor for a couple of years and then for only a couple of fishing trips each year since I bought it, hence, pretty low hours.

Now here's the upshot of all this. I just bought a 4HP Evinrude (1976-4636M) off the web. I'm usually a little skiddish about buying a 'cat in the sack' and was told the motor has an overheat problem, but starts and runs fine. I can see a service manual and water pump rebuild kit in my near future for sure.

I'm getting kinnda excited about getting this new motor and going over it with a fine tooth comb. I'm looking for any web sites with the engine specs ( while I wait for the manual) . It's my understanding that this 4hp doesn't have a gearbox, hence no reverse etc. I thought I read that the 4hp models had just forward and neutral. Did/do these have twist grip throttles?? I'd like to get a head start on this engine before it gets here, can you tell??

Thanks in advance for any info.
