Still ice on the water where i live but planning to get a GPS-unit for next season. But can i count on my Evinrude 50, 1975 for the electrical power i need? The equipment i been looking at will need about 40 watts and my question is: How many watts is my Evinrude 50 1975 supposed to deliver?

Mine had a 6 amp charging system, so should yours, that's not much but it'll keep up with small items like that easily. The battery powers the GPS, the motor charges the battery, so if you have the motor off for long periods of time and use the GPS all the time, it may be possible to drain the battery down some and if the run back to launch is short you may not be fully recharging the battery. If that's the case just put it on the charger when you get home.

6 amps X 12 volts = 72 watts.

Batteries are like water buckets. You can only get out of it what you put in it. 72 watts are plenty as long as you run the motor enough and don't have a bunch of other loads besides the starter.

If you think you need more power, bring another bucket.
