evinrude 50 hp 1973 not getting spark

the motor cranked up fine and was running smooth at idle when it shut off. Went to restart and it would not fire up. Pulled plugs and checked for spark and have none at all. have a book for it but very vague on eletrical problems,<br /><br />what should i check first?

bybassed switch and still no spark. Powerpack is very old but does not seem to be in bad shape but i do not have a neon tester to test it as stated in my manuel. was running great for the last week and just stopped running at idle would a bad power pack cause that. i am picking up a flywheel puller hopefully today if they have one in stock just to make sure everything under there is ig good shape

YES<br /><br />CHECK YOUR POWERPACKS GROUND..make sure its good.<br /><br />also, disconnect the black w/ yellow wire from the pack( this is the KILL wire) and try that<br /><br />do you have a digi-volt meter?

myoutboards has you on the right track. However, my powerpack recently died at idle just as you described. Like someone shut the key off.

I have a meter and can check voltage on the powerpack to see if i am getting the correct amount of power.
