Hi Guys,
My 1992 ex vro Rude won't start (no spark).
It ran fine last season and its just been sat in the front yard over winter.Trim and tilt ok,starter ok,primer solenoid ok.horn ok.
Rebuilt the Powerhead 3 years ago due to vro failure, have been running on 50:1 premix since.
Had a problem 2 years ago when engine wouldn't rev, disconnected tan wire at powerpack (thanks to Clanton) is he still around ?
Ignition/starter switch checks out ok.
Thanks in advance Dave

Is the kill switch lanyard hooked up?

Check for a blown fuse near the starter. It is in a connector that looks like a regular wire connection.

Never seen one with out a kill switch.

Will it start if you unplug the big red connector? REMEMBER, if it does, you'll have to shut off its air supply to kill it.

Re: Evinrude 50 No Spark

with that unplugged nothing works
wrong.. with that unplugged, you get to see what is and what isnt broken.. unplug the big wire harnes plug. get a small length of wire to go from battery to terminal on selonoid with a pushbutton type switch, so you can "bump" the starter.. now start it, or try to at least.

by disconnecting the wire harness, you are removing any possible wire problems with either the kill switch, start switch, ignition switch, controls, etc.....

by the way, how do you know its a spark problem, did you check the spark with a tester or did you even pull the plugs?

Re: Evinrude 50 No Spark

I had a no spark problem myself on a Johnson 50 about 3 wks ago. I test fired the motor in March, ran great. Took it to the lake, wouldn't start. Never even got it off the trailer which it turns out was fortunate. Did the red connector test. Pulled it apart, took out the plugs, hooked a spark tester to verify, and spun the motor. No spark. Most likely cause without a crank test to rule out a trigger coil is the power pack. Sure enough, replaced the power pack - all is now good.

Re: Evinrude 50 No Spark

Thanks Guys,
I've eliminated everything according to the Clymer manual, except the coils and the power pack, cos I haven't got the kit to check them, I fancy the power pack but trial and error can be expensive if you get it wrong !
What are the odds on coils versus powerpack ?

Re: Evinrude 50 No Spark

Just one more thing

Does anyone know the correct part number for this power pack ?
The old one is 175316 but the Evinrude dealer says this is listed for a 25hp motor !

Engine model AE50TLENJ #G03112133

Thanks again

Dave

Dave....parts break down has it listed as 175316. There was, I think only one model of the 25 in 92 with a power pack. The rest had the ignition module under the flywheel.
