The engine run fine for a week then started to go on one cylinder.
Checked the coil but nothing wrong.
Could the problem be the power pack?
How do i test the powerpack?

Regards /Nellie

Re: Evinrude 50 powerpack?

Hi Nellie,

Check, by removing one spark lead at the time (use insulated tool - hi-voltage around here), which cylinder(s) are running. You'll see a drop in rpm for each working plug you disconnect. If a plug can be disconnected without this drop, the plug in question is not running.

Next remove the plugs (notice the order) and inspect. Look carefully on the plug tips (electrode gap, color, residues). Do not wipe them clean until you refit them (if you do). The problem could be as simple as replacing the plugs.

If all are firing, your problem can be fuel-related.

Let's know how it turns out.

BTW: If you haven't got a manual, you should get one (link bottom of this site). Great help for troubleshooting and service.

I have checked that its one cylinder without spark.
Changed the coils and same problems on that cylinder.
No fuel problems.
Thats why im wondering about the powerpack.

/ Nellie

Now you really need that manual :)

Have you checked plug leads? Try to switch them and see if the problem follows the lead.

Nellie..... You haven't stated which cylinder isn't firing, however.....

You have two sensor wires leading from the timer base to the powerpack. Swith those leads at the pack temporarily.

If the absent spark changes from the original cylinder to the other cylinder, the timer base sensor is faulty.

If the spark stays absent on the same cylinder, the powerpack is faulty.

English isnt my Native language but as i wrote earlier i have already changed the coils and the same cylinder had no spark.
Thats why i thougt the power pack could be the next to test or replace.
What do u mean by sensor wires?
The wires that comes from the power pack to the coils?
Thats the ones i switched already
/ Nellie

Hey Nellie

Did you switch the coils - moving number 1 to cyl. 2 and number 2 to cyl 1 - and the problem was still there?

You moved the coils complete with lead and sparkplug?

Re: Evinrude 50 powerpack?

Now i have measured the output Volt from the powerpack going to the coils and on one ca 10 Volt
and on the other zero.
Incoming was ca 250 volt on both.
So my conclusion is that the powerpack is broken.
Anyone else that has measured this?

/ Nellie
