Hi,

I have just bought a Fletcher Arrowflyte ski boat fitted with an Evinrude 50HP outboard. I think the motor was built in 1988.

I know nothing about outboard motors (I normally sail a Wayfarer). I would appreciate it if anybody could describe the operation of the little red lever close to the carb. (please see the attached photo)

I also would love to know the set up procedure for starting the engine from cold.

Really hope somebody can help me.

Thanks

Mike Hudson

That adjusts the flow on your primer solenoid.
When you turn the key to start it, push in, you should hear a click.

That is your primer, it shoots a little gas into the thin tube on top of your carbs.
I call it # 2 tube as it is the second tube from the top.

The primer replaces a choke. It is what some snowthrowers and snowmobiles use too.

Buy a manual and check it out.
