thanks to all who have helped me change out the impeller. i bought this motor off a guy from craigslist. it is a 1962 evinrude, 5.5, model 5545. i have changed:
water pump. impeller, lu oil, gas lines, and plugs. it was most challenging putting it all together.
now that i have started the motor. it seems to not want to idle below the "start" position on the tiller. the carb seems really clean, but the seals around the needle valves looks not so great. i checked the points, and they seemed ok, not pitted, and i regapped them to .20 .
my question is, will the seals on the needle vavles cause rough idle? the coils looked like they are cracked, and i am unsure how to pull the flywheel off to access the coils. my guess is to replace the coils and replace the seals on the carb??
*** it seems that the motor when in neutral has higher rpms, than when in gear. would timimg affect this as well? ***
