Hello all.
Got my first boat and don't have a clue about them. but I do know automotive engines and what makes them run. I want buy all the stuff needed to do a tune-up on my evinrude model# 65373r Ser# joo16457. I see on iboat some engines have a "tune-up" kit you can buy, but do not see it for my 1973 65hp.
My questions are 1. what type/part numb of plug? 2.what is the fuel filter part number? don't even see the 65 hp listed? 3. is there points and condensers if so what's the part number cant find it any where. ?4.what can you do as far as preventive maintaince on this engine?

No points and condensers on that at all.---Electronic ignition on that may require repairs at times but old time " tune-up " is not required.

Get a set of Champion plugs L77J4 or QL77J4 gap them to .040

Read this article http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...ance/johnson-evinrude-outboards/404690-decarb Good idea to keep the motor healthy.

AND have the carbs disassembled and cleaned 100%

As far as a fuel filter you can install a water separator/filter in the boat and connect the ful tank to that and that to the motor. There are really no filters inside the motor.

thanks I guess its good to hear no points...
bob when I got the boat the guy said he just had the carbs done in feb and he never kept fuel in the engine. he would let it run dry when ever he used it. to me it runs great. I was told by a boat guy yesterday that I should switch to non ethanol gas. and we have a few places left that carries it here? what's ya`lls thinking on running "real" gas?
also can anybody tell me where to find a wiring chart for this engine/boat?

thanks

The ethanol gas thing is a myth and really only has an effect on OLD gas that has been left sitting in the carbs. A fuel/water filter (about $29 in a wally world store) will fit the bill. Don't go nuts over which gas to run....... run regular grade gas.

Roger that gotcha on the gas thing, but is it still a good idea to add the additives?
