Hello. I have a Evinrude '69 25 HP, Model 25902d.
I have done a good bit of reading and searching for a couple of answers, but have not been able to find something specific. If this ia a FAQ and you have a link I can look at, that would be great.
I have read http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=225510 but it is kind of general and/or over my head.
The other day, I tried starting this for the first time myself and failed...with a broken starter rope. I just got the rope and coil rewound...so I think I am ready to try again. This time, I am going to try to get it running in the driveway.
The person I bought the boat/motor from started it for me...and told me a few things to get it going. But that was 3 weeks ago...and he will not return my calls now or his cell phone is dead.
I don't really understand the primer bulb. It came off a couple of times. It seems to attach ok...and it seems to press...and get hard...but it will also fall off really easy. Is this putting air in the line? How much is too much priming? When I squeeze it, gas rushes in...but then it flows out. I squeze it again, and it flows in and then back out. I feel like I am going to flood the engine, but I don't really know what I am doing.
Then there is the choke. I pretty much understand it. I pull it out...it closes the air off to the engine. But then there is the Fuel Mixture Knob, to the right side of the of the choke. I think it is called the "Slow Speed Adjustment". The guy said to turn it one way to start it. The writing is gone on the control panel...and now I don't know which way to turn it when I am starting from a cold start vs. where it should be when the engine is warm.
Then there is the shifter. The place is loose, so I just attached it with nylon strap and I think it is in the correct position. There is a place that says start. But, when I was trying to start it the other day, it seemed like I got a little life out of it when I move it over just a bit.
Ok, so, sorry for the complete newbie questions. I did order a service manual but it would be nice if I could get this out for a ride tomorrow. Also, I am unsure if the service manual will even cover operating instructions...and I searched in vain for a simple operating instructions.
So, if anybody has the time, inclination, or a good link, I would be very appreciative!
Thanks!!
Drew
