You take off the engine and disconnect the link underneath it where the shift rod connects to the shift lever axle.<br /><br />Manuals are very useful for this sort of information. Your local library might have one to lend if you're unwilling to purchase one.<br /><br />And watch out for the order of the lower crankshaft seal parts. They're held in place by a pin in the end of the driveshaft. Also, you'll have to rotate the driveshaft a bit to get the pin to slip through the slot in the midsection when you drop the lower unit.

I got it off,Thank you for the help. Ordered a manual off ebay got it for $10.00 shipping included. I think the impeller is shot seems extremely flexible.Is there a gasket for that pump<br />housing? I want to work on it a little before I get my manual. Thanks again<br />I got to get it going so I can take my boys and girls frog gigging

No gasket, but the manual says to use some sealant underneath the wear plate. A lot of people don't bother though. Get the repair kit at a minimum so you can replace the wear plate while it's apart. Have you checked the ignition system yet?

I scuffed up piston, checking on new set and rings.I'm into it deep but I might as well fix it<br />right you guys out there are a lot of help and the project is good therapy and the kids are learning a lot.They say if I ever get it back together it will be a miracle.
