Guys,
Any help is appreciated,:( , I troll a lot at idle speed on Lake Erie and I'm having problems with my 1990 70 hp Evinrude stalling out. I have new fuel, new plugs and it still stalls. Looking for suggestions, what else to look for/do for the problem. Engine starts easy and runs OK in WOT, doesn't stall in neutral at idle, only under load. Thanks guys.

if this has just started this season, when were your carbs last cleaned. it is either low idle speed, 650-750 in gear, or clogging low speed jets in carb, fuel starvation. also check you spark on all 3.

Thanks TashasDad,:), yes it did start this season, matter of fact this is the first fishing outing this year trolling, trolled fine last fall. I dumped the old gas for fresh, put in new plugs and I'm doing the de-carb procedure today, just printed it matter of fact.
Bought some XD-50 oil from a Evinrude dealer, he says if you use XD-50 you won't need the Carbon guard cause its already in the oil, is that true? I hope he is right because the carbon guard is almost 15 bucks for a 12 oz bottle and the diff in price for XD-50 over XD-30 per gallon was only 2 bucks. Also I'm running 89 octane gas cause I read somewhere that mixing oil in the gas knocks the octane down a little and 2 cycles will run better on a little higher octane, is that fact or fiction?
Also he suggested testing the compression, any idea what is a range of readings that indicate good compression, I know big differences from cylinder to cylinder like +, - 10 to 15 psi or greater are not good. Any idea what is a good reading for a 1993 70 hp? Also since I am a novice mech how do you check compression, can it be done at the spark plug hole? Thanks for all help.
