Evinrude '81 35hp and teleflex steering?

I have a 1981 Evinrude 35 (E35RLCIG)and want to put my teleflex steering cable through the tilt tube. It seems my tube is a smaller diameter than the cable; I was told the electric start model of my motor will fit the cable. Does anybody know if the tilt tubes are differant diameters on the electric and manual start motors? Can I upgrade to a larger diameter tube?<br />Any comments will be appreciated.<br />Thanks!

no larger tubes, by 81 the tube diameters were standard in the industry. try cleaning the existing tube. I use a brake hone and oil on an electric drill. the tubes had a tendancy to rust.
