Hello. First of all, please forgive my technical vocabulary.... I recently bought a boat with a Evinrude 85 HP (85999). Here is my problem : when i press on the "up" button, it happens that the motor doesn't stop when i release... If i want the motor to be at its maximum down position, it stops and reverse back to the top, and there, same problem : i have to unplug the "+" or "-" on the battery. I checked the "down-up" button, it seems to be OK. I opened the "relay" (a black box where a lot of cables are connected), but i don't understand anything about it... Any help will be welcome ! Thanks a lot.

Re: evinrude 85999 tilt problem

lorenzo_french The trim trouble shooting guide in the outboard motor books is pretty exstentive. too much to write down here. Its a wiring short or mirco switch problem. I would go borrow a book or buy one. They are not too much at the local Boats US or West Marine. It will come in handy a million times over. They can be had on ebay for 15 bucks if you want to wait to get one.
but about 25 bucks at the store. Its the most imporatant thing to save you time from having to ask here to wait for a reply to a somtime simple answer. I think you could trouble shoot it in a couple of hrs with the book and wiring diagram.
steve
