Im having a bit of a problem with this new to me evinrude 9 1/2. Runs good, idles good but lacks power. I have to run it cover off because of an exhaust leak somewhere that will be fixed eventually. Anyways popped flywheel off points look good reset them to .020. Tried j4c and j6c checked float height and adjusted. When I'm going wot it lacks power. Solo 200lbs im a 14' light Tin boat I had to make a tiller extension 4' long and sit up to plane out but just barely 11 mph with the wind. Now if I turn the mixture screw all the way in she start to scream and takes off great with tons of power. But as soon as I slow to idle it stalls and I have to back screw out and choke to start. Ideas?

that needle feeds the L/S function of the motor..but the main source of H/S fuel comes from the H/S jet at the bottom of the carb.

As Boobie indicated carb servicing is in order…. when what it serviced last ??? coud be just a dirty HS jet

as quick test pull the bottom bolt on the carb … firmly insert the straw from the carb cleaner can & give it a shot of carb cleaner to try and flush the H/S jet way in at the back of that cavity . protect your eyes

retest the engine & if not ok.. pull and service the carb following Leroy's instruction

http://www.leeroysramblings.com/OMC_9.5.htm

lots of utubes also

btw does the engine pick up speed if you pump the bulb while underway ...

So carb looks clean I sprayed it all out, I even had another carb kicking around which looked to be in worse shape and tried thag carb and it ran a bit better. When I first put it on I could take off sitting at the back and it would actually plane out I wouldn't have to move forward. 5 minutes later it slowed down again, screwing in the mixture screw all the way as usual gave me most power it's almost as if I hit nos the second the mixture screw bottoms out if your holding it wot haha

pumping the bulb while underway doesn't change anything either

The idle mixture is the only adjustment on those carburetors !------Are you sure it is running on both cylinders ?-----Plug wires are known to crack where they come down from the mag plate !

Must be running on both cylinders because it will do 17.6 mph in a 14 foot boat with the mixture screw bottomed out. With it not bottomed out the most I can get is 13.5mph.

You might deny it , but it sounds like the high speed jet in the float bowl needs cleaning and or inspection.------Might even be the wrong one.----Float valve may be leaking as well..----Sorry but many folks simply can not find that HS jet.----I own a number of these motors for parts and fixing your problem would be easy task.
