Rebuilding my grandfather's 9.5hp Evinrude Sportwin. Trying to determine the exact year but I only have the Serial number E09726 (Model number unreadable). I was told that it was from the mid to late 60’s. A friend of mine has a Johnson 9.5 that is identical and his is a 1967. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you can't find the model number on the powerhead the colour can narrow it down a bit.
1964 9.5HP
1965 9.5HP
1966 9.5HP
1967 9.5HP
1968 9.5HP

1971 9.5HP
1973 9.5HP

There is no pictures of 1969-70 or 1972 models at that web site.

You'll find the possible model numbers here.

What do you think about these models? Anyone like yours?

I did hit the Add Reply button before I was done. I just post again. Maybe you'll check this again, before the photo session :)

The 1968 looks like it, but it is kind of hard to tell. I'm searching for a better photo of it and one of the '69.

Look on the power head for the "Welch Plug" which will have the model number on it. The "Welch Plug" looks like an automotive freeze plug that has been installed backwards.

My 1971 Evenrude 9.5hp's serial number is J-----, and the model number is 9122R
