So I made a deal I could not pass up...

I bought a certain boat with a partial motor...

The motor is a 90HP Evinrude, uncertain of the year at this point..
And the motor is missing the head... Why I do not know..

Question is this..

Buy a new (and I mean used) top end and rebuild or

sell the lower unit, and replace with something else?

Thanks

Re: Evinrude 90hp needs head...

I would check out the motor top and bottom and determine what is good. A used head should be easy to come by, but what is the shape of the cylinders and gearcase? If the gearcase is good, and the two cylinders where the head is missing are bad (likely), it might be cheaper to get an iBoats rebuild, althought you will need to come up with a head to complete the core. If the gearcase is bad, and the cylinders are bad, a new used motor might be a better idea.

I was thinking, easy...
so sell the whole thing for under $200 and start looking for a different motor.
The boat would be nice with a 115 up to a 175ish...
