I'm proud new owner of a evinrude 90hp V4 vro but can't find any Id tag on the tildbracked. They told its a 1993 build :)
Need Id. for partsordering. Found other numbers on the enigine and bracked.
On a silver plug on top of enigine nr. G2978703
On top between cylinders there where these numbers: 186691 15DG1 and small 221891.
On the tild bracked on top-right side stamped 189178 17DQ1. Could anyone tel me what these numbers mean? and is it the right manufacturing date?

Welcome!!

The silver plug number is the serial number. If you call customer service at BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products) they can convert it. Or you may be able to e-mail them from Evinrude.com.

There was no computer to hook up to read with a laptop on a carb'd motor. They can trace it easily, or at least OMC was always able to.

Lets start with the obvious -- there are 2 lower pan mounts. One on each side of the front half of the block. Look right below the throttle and shift cables. There is a "foot" coming off the front half with a bolt going down into the lower pan.

Is that mount bolted to the block or is it cast in?

I'd think early 90's and assume the starter has been changed. Looks like they had starter issues with that odd starter solenoid.

Are there any splines left in the crank?

Yes the starter was changed. he told me when I bought the engine. Ok we also think is a 90 0r 91 but no 93. it was just in time for the engine to give him a second life. It has been in salt water and we had a tough jop to remove the lower end and there was quite a lot of corrosion but it had good compression even with a few pistonrings stuk in the piston. He told us he had speed limmits overthere, So I think the engine had a lot of time at idle speed. The lower bearing makes some noise and we put in a new one. the splines are fine. we cleand it up and it fits nice on the axle.
