Evinrude '99 50 HP not going in reverse

I have a 99 Evinrude 50 hp on a Sweetwater pontoon. Sometimes when putting in reverse, it has trouble kicking into gear, and it just revs up the engine. I have to to try several times in neutral and reverse before it'll kick in. No problems going forward. Any help would be great. Thanks!

You might try disconnecting the shift cable at the engine and shift it manually, maybe the cable just needs to be adjusted.
