I have a 1985 20 HP Evinrude that is only used in fresh water. I noticed that some outboards have an air box attached to the Carb, mine does not. Is this part essential to motor operation? What is its purpose?

Any help is greatly appreciated regarding this to this topic.

Thanks

Re: Evinrude Air Box

Hi Newf1
Its not called an airbox, but an attuenuator, on larger engines itused to as part of the air/fuel mixture (eg if you remove it on a larger engine you acctually end up running Leaner @WOT
On small engines it was ussually just away of cutting down th e sound of the carb.
If it didnt come with it dont worry about it.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the help fellers. I'll do without the part as it runs well without it.
