The 7.5hp AD11 is a 1957 model and the 15HP is a 1984.

Any advice on what oil and what ratio to use in the AD11 57 model Johnson Seahorse?

24:1 (one quart TCW-3 rated outboard oil to six gallons 87 octane fuel)

DJ,
I have an AD11 and the manual specifies 1 qt. SAE 30 outboard motor oil to 1 gal of gas. That would be 16:1. Was the specification revised after manual was printed or does TC-W3 make the difference.

If your manual says 16:1 go with that, but 16:1 means 16 parts gas to 1 part oil. therefore 1 qt oil to 4 qts gas would be 4:1. 8 oz of oil to 1 gallon of gas is 16:1 DO NOT use SAE 30 a good outbout 2 stroke oil will work and run better and save your spark plug life

Smitty

Hi Herothc
The mix ratio for your motor and all OMC outboards of the fifties is 24:1. What you need is a copy of your own owners manual. I don't have one for the AD 7.5hp. I do how ever have one for the QD 10hp. The opperation, adjustments and maintaince are the same. If you would like a copy of this orignal post your e-mail address and I will try and send it to you. This book will explain in detail why the confusion of the 16:1 versus the 24:1 ratio. Also clear up the business of the SAE non-detergent 30wt motor oil. You may as well get it from the sea horses mouth.

IT needs to be bigger. It is too small to read.
Thanks, Hero
