Evinrude and Tracker lower unit interchange.

Will a lower unit from a 1988 or 89 Evinrude Tracker 40hp interchange with a 1986 Evinrude (E40ELCDE) 40hp?

Appears to be some sort of model change about 1989. I'm trying to get the model number now.

I called the owner and got the model no. Turns out it's a 1992 Evinrude Tracker and the lower units will not match. Now I'm back to debateing whether to get a aftermarket CMC PT-130 tilt and trim unit or just leave it be. It's just hard to lay out 6 bills just to tilt the motor but when I pull my back lifting that thing out of the water it may seem cheap.
