I just picked up a 1957? 35HP? Evinrude (#25028-19249) which says Big Twin on the cover. Can somebody verify my assumptions? Also I have another question, what is the difference between the Big Twin and the Lark motors? It appears that they were both produced at the same time. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Also the info from the forums has been very helpful.

Your motor is a 57. 35 hp.
Pretty sure the Lark was just the deluxe version of the same motor.
Lots of chrome ,different paint, electric start,
little doors covering recoil handle and control panel and possibly a generator.

I'm NO expert on this. But I DO have a '61 Lark III 40 HP. I have a set of manuals for it and I know that they do refer to BOTH motors (Big Twin and Lark) in the same manual. I'll look and see if they mention any differences.

Lots of changes between the '57 and '61 versions...

As for the '57 BigTwin/Lark, there are no mechanical differences between them (Big Twin also came with electric start version), just cosmetic differences like chrome trim, a door to cover the knobs and handles in front, and a gray paint job with black, white and red accents...

- Scott

To address another post, I believe that the Lark series started with the 1956 30 hp model.

Chinewalker, now I know to who ask when I can't find stuff in my documentation. ;)
