Ok guys I’ve changed the fuel pump on my 76 15hp
evinrude. But it still seemed like it still wasn’t putting out as much power as I thought it should be. I pulled a coil wire and it ran. Then pulled another coil wire it died.(yes I replaced one before I pulled the other) Got home swapped coils around. Still died on top plug, same as before. I know this motor has a driver coil. Could it be a a condenser? Thx

Those motors are hard on the points anf condensors. If you replace them buy a good quality oem kit.

mercdawk, has anybody told you how notorious the 1974-76 9.9 & 15hp motors are for fouling spark plugs? Yes, even brand new motors straight out of the box.

Yessir I read that on Leeroys ramblings so I went to an NGK B6Hs a hotter plug because I mostly run at idle speed.

Question? When I change points and condensers, I’m just going to set points with feeler gauge and the set mark on cam lobe. Do I still need to do static timing?
