Hmmm- where to put this topic?

I need to replace the control cables for my Evinrude- the current ones are way to long and don't work smoothly.

How does one measure for proper length?
From tip to tip or just the cable excluding the connectors?

The easiest way is to measure your current cables, tip to tip is fine. Determine how much too long they are and then go to your local marine dealer and tell him (her) what you have and how much shorter you need.

The best adive Ic an give you is don't go cheep with your cables. basically the more they cost the smoother and better they work. A good way to tell if a cable is good is to try to move the ends while it is coiled up in the box...cheep cables tend to bind up, if they are pretty smooth coiled up I would buy them.

Chris,

If the cables are original OMC, take a close look at them and you will see the length printed every foot or so. That may give you a reference point to figure out how much shorter a cable you want.

Mark
