Evinrude Controls question.

Hey all, I just picked up a 1980 Evinrude 200horse with all the controls. Now I'm not too familiar with this set up. There are two cables coming from the controls. One I am assuming is for the shift. Would the other one be for throttle? I can find a parts listing for the main shift cable, but can't find anything else. I need to replace both, or figure out a different set of controls.

Thanks all!

Re: Evinrude Controls question.

Both cables will be the same part number and should be the same length. Unlikely the cables that came with the box will be the correct length for your setup, so before you purchase new ones, you will need to measure for correct length to make sure they will work.

Re: Evinrude Controls question.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if both cables were the same. With my controls, only one cable is there, the other is cut about 6 inches from the control box. I'll hopefully be mounting the motor on the boat Thursday evening and from there can start worrying about cables. I'm getting excited. Never had this much horsepower on tap. Most I've dealt with before was the old Johnson 50hp on my 14ft Crestliner runabout. Now I'm jumping to a 200 horse Evinrude on a 19 foot performance bass boat.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Evinrude Controls question.

Ran a 79 200 for years. Not much out of the hole, but it would really get going on top end. It's ported like the 235, but is a flatback. Has the nice carbs and intake stuffers. You should have a lot of fun propping it.
