I just purchased a boat that had a Yamaha engine stolen off of it and the wiring was cut at the transom. The there is a binical 704 Yamaha remote control that has damaged teleflex cables still on the boat. I am planning on hooking up a 1996 Evinrude 60 HP (red plug) (E60TLEDR) to the boat and was wondering if I could use the Yamaha binical mount and buy Evinrude/Johnson cables for it with a separate wiring harness or will I need a new binical shifter as well as the harness.
Thanks for any help, and feel free to include any advise or tips.

Re: Evinrude Controls

I think you need OMC control and cables, crb.

The levers result in different amounts of throw so even if you do get the cables to work, the amount of travel they have will not be correct. Get the right controls, cables and electrical harness and be done with it.

Re: Evinrude Controls

OMC uses a 5" throw and most everybody else uses 6". Most modern controls have that option built in. There may be two different holes in the levers to attach the ends of the cables to. The inner hole would be the one for OMC. Yamaha uses SAE universal cables. You can get kits for adapting those cables for use on OMC products. It's kinda klunky, but it works.

Every Binnacle by brand has different mountng configurations. That often makes swapping a bit difficult, but it can usually be done.
