My 93 Evinrude 200 TX (Q02614230) does not start. Over the last weeks / month it was hard to cold start, but once the moter started, it would start again without a problem. However last week end I put the boat in the water, cranked the motor, but it did not start at all. The flywheel turned, the spark plugs were wet, but no actual spark at the plaugs. How do I go about trouble shooting the ignition system? Are there any tricks to disable the kill switch, etc, to just eliminate any wiring problems.

Thank you very much.

Walt.... Remove the spark plugs. Rig up a spark tester whereas you can set a 7/16" gap. Crank the engine and observe the spark. From what you've said, I would assume you have no spark.

Now, disconnect the large RED main electrical connector at the engine (plugs still removed). Crank the engine via a jumper from the battery terminal of the solenoid to the solenoid's small 3/8" nut terminal to engage it.

If you now have spark, there is either a faulty ignition switch, kill switch, or a short in the instrument cable (engine to control area cable).

You can test the ignition switch by re-connecting the RED cable, then remopving the black/yellow wire from the ignition switch. If removing that black/yellow wire results in the return of spark, replace the switch.

Pineypowerwpww, I got a little further, but the moter is still not starting. It seems there must be some wrong with the power pack, but I don't really know how to test it. I may just replace it.

Run out of time and patience and took the boot into a shop. They told me that the stator is damaged, showed me the melted isolator, which dripped down from the coils. Will set me back over $ 300 just on parts. Hopefully get it back this week.

Had the boat out this weekend and it runs better than ever. The shop said they replaced the stator and reclued some of the magnets. Cost over little $ 540 was well worth it.
