Ok, I have been having problems with the motor seeming to run on only one cylinder after maybe several trips out on the water. I put new spark plugs in it which didn't help and then took it to the shop. At first they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it while running it at the shop. They then took it to the lake and came back and put a stator in it charging $120 labor and $39 part and taxes. Well, needless to say, as always, it ran good for a trip and a half and now back to the same condition. I don't really feel comfortable taking it back to these (mechanics????) since they apparently have ripped me off big time. With the throttle wide open it only seems to be running half speed. I can pull back on the throttle just a tad and then push it all the way and I get a surge and then back to like half speed. Any help at all on this? Sure would appreciate it!!

What is the compression on each cylinder? What do the spark plugs look like (describe as good as possible) and do they look alike? With the spark plugs removed, the spark should jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame... a real SNAP... does it?

The spark plugs should be Champion QL77JC4 plugs, gapped at .040 .

Joe is pointing you in the right direction (as usual,Joe).

But I would like to ask why you feel you were ripped off big time.

The problem doesn't happen eveytime, the shop couldn't get it to happen so they lake tested your boat and gave it their best shot. $159 plus tax.

Why do you feel this a rip off ?

DHP

The compression was 150 on each cylinder. The plugs are brand new Champion QL77JC4, gapped at .040. They actually have a dull glaze to them. I feel I was ripped off because they installed a stator and told me my old one was bad. My first trip out on the water after they told me they had found the problem resulted in the same problem that I had when I took it in there. Where exactly did my $159 go? If they had doubts about what the problem actually was they should have told me they couldn't find a problem and gave me the boat back. That's where the ripped off feeling comes in at. Why charge me for fixing something that they couldn't fix? I had no problems paying when I assumed my troubles were over.

Compression is 150 on each cylinder and the plugs are brand new Champion QL77JC4, gapped to .040. I feel ripped off because they told me they had found my problem and that it was a bad stator. Labor on this was $120. First time out on the lake, sme thing as before. Therefore the cost of the stator was wasted plus the 2 hours of labor. I am now back at the beginning minus the $159 that I could use to get it fixed as it should be. If they didn't know what was wrong with it why spend my money and just take a chance on replacing parts hoping that would take care of the problem? Now $159 later I still have to pay someone to find out what the problem is and fix it. Ripped Off!!
