Re: evinrude elto 1920-1930's - no spark
Hi Pardner,
Depends on the model. It's possible that it is a battery ignition motor, in which case you'd need a 6V Hot Shot or automotive type battery to kick it off. Later ELTOs had regular magnetos and are fairly sturdy for most models. Weak points are often the magnets, which were not of the permanent variety back in those days. There are guys in the AOMCI who have parts and some even have flywheel re-magnitizers! I've got a 1929 Elto Speedster with the battery ignition - "starts with a quarter-turn!" It's one of the sweetest running motors I've ever had from ANY era. And talk about a racket! Even the open piped go-fasts on the River will slow down and take a look as this thing cruises along! Gotta love it!
- Scott
