Hi everyone:
Been lurking for a while but now have a question. I have an old evinrude 2hp (model number F2RCSM) that used to be my dad's. I took it out the other day (first time running in a few years) and it went for about 5 minutes and died. I figured (too late) that it may have overheated because I didn't check the impeller or anything.
Took it home, took of the lower unit, put in a new impeller. Just starter her up in a barrel (thank goodness it didn't seize or anything, started right up and seemed to run great) but I didn't see any water dripping out anywhere.
Checked the cooling jacket, and didn't really even see anywhere for the water to come out of. So I took the lower unit off again, verified that the impeller was seated properly and I had the woodruff key (pin?), and put some water down the water pipe to see where it would come out. It looks like it might just go up into the cooling jacket, and then drip out INSIDE of the shaft (with the exhaust) and just dribble out the exhaust port? Does this seem right? Granted, I'm not exactly an outboard wizard, but I've had 5-6 in my life and they've all dribbled at least some water out the head. If this old evinrude really does just put the water straight back out with the exhaust, how can you verify that the impeller is working? I like seeing a stream of water coming out, makes me think things are actually cooling
ANy information about this motor would be great and unbelievably helpful. Thanks in advance!!
