I am looking at a boat with twin '99 FICHT Evinrude 175's. The engines have the 2000 year model upgrades which were installed before they were ever cranked for the first time. The engines have 94 hours on them and have no problems. (A friend owns it and he's only selling because he no longer uses the boat). I have heard all of the horror stories about the FICHTs but is there anyone who has had success with the 2000/2001 models?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That's fairly low hours for 99's, which might not be a good thing. I think one of the biggest problems (after the upgrades were taken care of), was lower unit problems, which could be popping up around this time on those engines. I think it comes down to how lucky do you feel. Plenty of people have had good luck, with their engines, while others have had big problems. ;)

From everything that I have gathered for some reason the 1999 175hps haven't had the problems. I can't unstand why  ,same type of powerhead. If you are getting it at a reasonable price I'd look at trading them .You can not beat what bombardier is offering at this time.A rebate on a 175 Ficht $7.00 per hp thats $1225.00 per motor= $2450.00 + your trade-in.Or you could opt for the 7 year warranty. What you have to watch out for when you go to a dealer is where are they giving you the trade in on. My Ma&pa shop gave it to me on a price of $14,000.00. when I went to a second dealer he gave me a price of $14,000.00 w/notrade in, when Itold him that I had a trade in the list price went to $19,500.00. You have to be carefull. Since he is a good freind just buy the hull and buy new motors. let him sell the motors separete.
;) A good ole friend of mine always says when it comes to motors, ;) " always buy the first half and sell the second half" :) How true those words are. :D Even if you bought another brand of motor ;)

I know from exsperience that the 2000s were terrible two new powerheads  The 1999-2000 200hp & 225hp had the most problems, so I thought.
