Model 6302Sj Evinrude Fisherman 6Hp

Top cylinder: 105psi, golden brown plug
Bottom cylinder: 93psi, Very black plug

Motor has no spark at either cylinder, probably bad points or condensers will pull flywheel soon. Lower unit is good water pump in unknown condition but no signs the motor was over heated (pistons looked good no cylinder scoring power head paint not blistered) and there is no connecting rod play that is visible or audible.

The motor was really stiff but some tcw3 immediately loosened it.

At this point (no attempt to start yet) the fuel pump diaphragm and ignition are suspect. I feel like the compression may be low but I tested it without fuel/oil available. A carb kit will almost certainly be installed because the motor has been sitting in a shed for almost 25 years

I would like feedback on the compression situation, and confirmation that my suspicion of the fuel pump is on par for the rich looking bottom cylinder

if my old memory serves me well, and sometimes it does...!lol the tube for the pulse is hooked to the lower cylinder. If diaphram bad, could have been leaking extra fuel into lower cylinder and piston. I would say after repairs are made and engine is running, run some seafoam through it an see if comp readings come up. I bet they do! Post back results

I would think either the carb or the ignition system was cause the difference between the plugs. 105 vs 93 is just outside of the 10% rule but it should be fine. Go look at the top secret files for bringing an old outboard back to life. You are going to have rebuild the carb and you will want to replace the water pump before you run the engine.
