With a puller that acts on the three screw holes near the hub. Never with one that pulls from the sides!
An economical solution is to use an automotive harmonic balancer puller with three 3" long 1/4"-20 high grade bolts and washers.
If you find the ignition coils under there cracked, replace them. Iboats PN 18-5181 works well. You'll need a repair manual to set up them and the points properly, as well as for the torque spec for the flywheel nut. And you'll need it for all the little maintanace tasks you'll want to do on that outboard once you get it going good. :)

Good luck!

Evening again, JB!

Give it up!!! Send me the motor for parts!!!!!

Just kidding!!!!

You do need the puller to get it off. A harmonic balancer puller works quite well.

If you are like me and only a hobbyist, I buy some tools of second grade materials. I've got great Mastercraft Life time warrany sockets and wrenches but specific tools that I will use at best infrequently, I buy second grade from low end stores and flea markets.

A puller should cost you less than $20 CDN dollars. It will work fine a couple of times but be careful and don't stress it.

A decent puller is over $100 and I don't think it's worth for the guy like me that will pull the fly wheel 10 times in a lifetime.
